What is EdiaB?

EDiaB is a simple, easy to set-up and use web-based application that helps connect citizens and communities to each other and to the resources ecosystem.

How does it work?

1) EDiaB acts as a catalyst to your local economy by fostering connections within the entrepreneurial and small business ecosystem.

2) With EDiaB’s business and product directories, it also acts to connect the community more closely to the regional economy, keeping transactions and money in the community.

3) By presenting a highly visible public platform for your community’s companies and products, EDiaB also acts as a community branding platform by helping to promote your community outside of your region.

Why is it different?

1) Our software-as-a-service price plan allows very low entry costs and low service rates.

2) Unlike many large and expensive web platforms many municipalities purchase, EDiaB is not complicated or costly.

3) Ongoing costs of management and overhead are dramatically lower than most systems, because after the initial content is loaded, the ongoing content is user-generated and self-perpetuating.

4) Low management and administrative overhead are reduced, because you don’t have to worry about networks, servers, security or hard-drive space. We take care of the complex technical stuff for you.

5) All of the most necessary community collaboration features are combined in one simple package; EDiaB provides a one-stop-shop, a “Swiss Army knife solution to many of the problems communities have growing their economy.

Why is it better?

  1. Our usage-based pricing model makes it affordable. You only pay for the benefit you get.
  2. Combines the best of breed features necessary for community acceleration.
  3. Takes the technical complexity out of accelerating your economy.

Why should this be important to me?

Most communities face difficulties retaining young talent and keeping smart job in their region.

EDiaB helps reverse those pressures by fostering growth in the local entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Most communities are struggling to keep up. EDiaB gives your community an advantage in choosing the economy you want and growing it at a rate that helps you keep pace with or accelerate past your peers.

Where is EDiaB used?

Communities …… (up to 15,000 inhabitants)
Small Cities ….. (up to 150,000 inhabitants)
Mid-Size Cities .. (up to 500,000 inhabitants)
Large Cities ….. (up to 1 million inhabitants)

Who purchases EDiaB?

EDiaB is normally purchased by any community organization interested in growing the local economy. This could be any of the following types of organizations:

  • Local municipal government
  • Regional government
  • Local or regional Economic Development Authority
  • Chambers of Commerce
  • Community Non-profit Organizations
  • Civic-minded business or corporate philanthropists

What problems does it help to solve?

Many communities are struggling with the same issues of how to grow the economy in the direction they want, how to ensure average wages don’t stagnate, and how to make the transition from lower-wage to higher-wage economic activity. EDiaB helps in all of these areas.

  1. Low economic growth
  2. Low wage economy
  3. Weak community collaboration
  4. Poor community image or brand
  5. Unsupportive entrepreneurial environment

What does it do?

  • Promotes higher-wage economic growth.
  • Builds brand awareness for the community.
  • Increases community collaborations.
  • Builds a higher-quality, more vital community entrepreneurial ecosystem.
  • Empowers entrepreneurs.
  • Connects the community
    —> to itself.
    —> to the entrepreneurs.
    —> to local products.
    —> to jobs.
    —> to the world.

Acts virally and becomes more important and useful as more people sign-up.

Why does it work?

EDiaB works because residents understand the need to shop and act locally. They get the need to support entrepreneurs. EDiaB now gives all community residents a chance to participate in community betterment. They want to belong. They want to help. EDiaB makes that easy.

Who needs it?

Any community that wants to be better and is willing to do something to make that happen.

Isn't this just another website?

No. EDiaB is carefully crafted to foster engagement and to carefully promote those aspects of the community you want to grow. Most community websites take a generic shotgun approach and lose impact as a result. EDiaB is focused on fostering connections and providing a positive image of the entrepreneurial community in ways a general website cannot.

We already have a website, why would we need EDiaB?

Because your current website does not centralize the things your business community needs. There are probably 25-50 websites in your community that offer some small pieces of what you get with EDiaB. This information is often outdated because it requires that someone provide continual updates to the site. EDiaB solves these problems by centralizing the information and allows users to generate their own content.

How does the data get input into EDiaB?

We help you gather the initial data from your community and then load in this data to get things started.
Once the site is up and going, user members will add their own information. What business would not want free publicity? What person looking for a job, would not take advantage of EDiaB to post their resume? What business looking for talent would not look at EDiaB for resumes?

After the initial load and as membership grows, users generate all the content and it becomes self-catalyzing.

Who would use it?

  • Businesses that want publicity.
  • Anyone who wants to sell products.
  • Entrepreneurs looking to tell their story.
  • Organizations that want to raise their profile.
  • Job seekers needing a place to post their resume.
  • People with projects who would like help or recognition.
  • Talent seekers looking for resumes to fill their open positions.
  • Anyone offering an event of activity that wants to increase attendance.

What would they use it for?

  • Promoting their business.
  • Finding talent.
  • Finding jobs.
  • Finding something to do.
  • Finding local products and services.
  • Telling their story.

How would people find out about it?

Prior to launching the site into the public eye, we work with you to craft a creative publicity campaign to build community awareness and anticipation. By the time the site is launched, there is enough initial data for people to see the valuable benefit of becoming a member.

Why would they use it?

  1. Because it will be THE “one-stop-shop” and central clearing hub for information in their community and they will need it in order to maintain and raise their community profile.
  2. Because their neighbors and competitors will.

How can you prevent inappropriate use?

Because this system covers a community that lives together, we have found there is actually very little abuse. But on the rare occasion that it is inappropriately used, we have several different ways of dealing with it.

  1. Posting can only be made by members who have a provided heir name and personal info in their setup profile. This in itself eliminates nearly all abuse. No one wants to be associated by name with bad behavior.
  2. We can set it up so all new posts have to be approved by the local on-site Admin.
  3. We capture IP addresses from each user and can block single addresses or a range of address that originate inappropriate posts.

What features does it have?

The features included in the base offering during include:

  • Community Branding
  • Community Collaboration
  • Social Networking
  • Entrepreneur Empowerment
  • Talent and Resume Board
  • Local Organization Directories
  • Tell Your Story
  • Community Activity and Event Calendar
  • Very simple yet powerful administrative interface for managing the system

We have lots more features planned for Phase-II and Phase-II.

What are the software legal issues?

illuminomics only uses free and open-sourced software in creating its solutions. Our configurations are copyrighted but the software it is built upon is all open-source. The content in the system is owned by you.

What is needed from you?

  1. To encourage membership and promote use of EDiaB, a community would usually run a small awareness campaign to make point people to the site.
  2. We strongly recommend that a community appoint one person dedicated to administrating and promoting the system.
  3. To get things started quickly, it is helpful if a community can provide some initial content and data to begin building the data sets that members will find valuable.

How long does it take to setup?

The system itself takes us less than a day to setup and turn on for your community. The data load time depends on how much data you already have that you want to load, the amount of customization you want to do, and the level of organization you already have in place to promote and manage the system. Generally speaking, it usually takes about a month from the time where we set it up and the time members are able to get an and get value from the system.

What type of resource commitment is needed to get it going and maintain it?

EDiaB sold as a service and the costs you pay are directly tired to the amount of use and value your community gets from the service. Smaller communities that will have fewer members and lower traffic will of course pay much less that larger cities that could have tens of thousands of members and generate hundreds of thousands of hits each month. We have specifically priced it this way so small communities can afford to participate and that all communities pay a lot less than the value they receive.

How does the info get into the system?

Depending on how much Organization, Talent, Activity, Stories data you already have, we can load up as much or as little as you have. The real beauty of EDiaB is that it is a user-generated content model so the the vast majority of information will come from EDiaB members in your community. The more information they put it, the more value it adds to your community. The goal is to get to the point where EDiaB becomes THE default one-stop-shop and central clearing-house for all info needed by entrepreneurs and businesses in your community.

What if I need help?

We stand behind our products and want to make this as easy as possible for you and your team. We offer 4 hour emergency issue phone call support and 24 hour non-emergency on-line support, for as long as you are using our product.

Can EDiaB be customized?

Yes, EDiaB is very flexible and most customizations can easily be performed from the Admin Panel by the person who administers the system. For more in depth customizations, we are willing to adjust EDiaB to your needs, if you can’t get what you need within the Admin Panel. There may be costs for advanced customizations.

How much does it cost?

To keep prices down and ensure any community who needs EDiaB can afford it, we sell EDiaB as a pay-as-you-go, monthly software service that is directly tied to the usage and value you get from the system.

This allows small cities with fewer members and lower traffic volumes to provide a very cost-effective solution for as little as $75 per month. Larger cities with more members and server traffic would pay more. Regardless of size, no one will be asked to pay more than the actual value they receive.

Who owns it?

illuminomics owns the back-end code and server platform, you own your data, and the community owns the content they put into the system.

Who manages the EDiaB system?

  1. We handle all the back-end network, databases and server messy back-end system administration.
  2. We assist with the administrative adjustments to fit your needs.
  3. The administrative person assigned by your organization community manages the Admin Panel and community content.
  4. The users post the content (ie. jobs, products, talent, news, etc.)

What if I don't like it?

If for any reason you are not completely satisfied with EDiaB, you may drop the service at anytime. Since our service contracts with you, you are not tied into an expensive and long-term contract. You may cancel at any time.

How long does it take to show results?

Because of the benefits of EDiaB (like social media in general), are cumulative over the time it takes to build a membership base with critical mass, we feel a year is a reasonable length of time to get to a point where EDiaB becomes self-catalyzing. Of course this also depends on the size and effort put into the marketing campaign to popularize the platform with in your community. Larger more effective campaigns and larger initial data loads during setup can potentially shorten the interval needed to reach critical mass.

How can I measure ROI for an EDiaB system?

While ROI is often difficult to measure with most economic development projects, because of the data can EDiaB collects about how members use the system, we are able to provide very specific and accurate quantitative data that can be used to measure ROI directly.
As but one example, we know that if 1000 members put their resumes on-line and get job offers based on those resumes, we can safely say that EDiaB had some role in reducing the time they were unemployed. We can also safely say that if we reduce, by 1 month, that length of time 1000 people are unemployed, that there is a direct, specific and measurable dollar amount you can ascribe to the assistance EDiaB provided.

What is the range of possible ROI from using EDiaB?

There are a number of other ways to arrive at specific benefit valuations as well. Given the very low monthly rates you would pay for EDiaB, and the high potential for increases in economic activity from using our system, it is entirely reasonable to see 20-30:1 returns on your investment, depending on how actively you promote and manage the system within your community.
